Calling All Active Agents!
Open Call for Thought Crime Volunteers
Thought Crime is seeking volunteers to help organize the gallery and it's events.
If you are interested call Michael at (602) 254-6397 or come visit us at the gallery.
We're open every Friday and Sunday nights and we also have Saturday office hours from 2PM-3PM.
Time commitments are flexible. We're looking for responsible, motivated individuals interested in developing the gallery into a fully functional artist resource. This year we would like to grow our core of active participants to 20-30 people.
Experience is a plus but not necessary. We can work together to figure out what we don't already know.
Below are some areas of focus, but we can try to accomodate all kinds of help.
Friday nights from 6-9 we can always use some extra hands.

Michael and Joanna recently visited an artspace in San Francisco called CELLspace. www.cellspace.org

"CELLspace offers communal art workshops and learning labs in a variety of artistic mediums: metal, wood, puppetry, sewing, music, digital video, crafts, dance, and theatre. Our 10,000 square foot facility serves as an arts incubator, enabling emerging Bay Area artists to create, develop, exhibit, and perform new work in an affordable, cooperative, and collaborative environment."

It was a Monday night that we visited CELLspace and found Helima out front taking a smoke break. She invited us in and gave us a tour. They were having a "cluster" meeting that night but we were too late to sit in on it. Tony, who coordinates the metals shop, showed us around some more as we waited for the meeting to finish up. After the meeting we met with Jonathon, from the administrative "cluster". Jonathon compiled a stack of CELLspace information and we talked about networking collective art spaces, establishing a new type of designated use for city zoners called "Community Art Center", and discussed their current dilema with the city requiring that their building be brought up to code. It was an exciting visit. I encourage anyone visiting the SanFrancisco to check it out.

[~~~~ FUTURE SHOWS ~~~~]

Don't miss these upcoming events:

March 7-9, 2003 for Art Detour,
Thought Crime presents:
Art/War (Art against War)
Art against war presents works that confront and critique America's wars against Iraq and terrorism.
This show is open to all local and network artists. We are seeking one work per artist. Initially there are no size constraints. Works may be in any medium. Pseudonyms are encouraged. We are requesting a $10 donation to participate to help defray the costs of production. This fee is a suggested donation and not required... contribute what you can. We have room in the parking lot for large outdoor works. We will also have an outdoor stage for performances and spoken word. There will be space for local activist groups to distribute information.
America will probably have already declared war against Iraq by the time of the show.
Together, let's make this a significant event.

We can receive work between Monday, February 10th & Friday, February 28th.
The show is Friday, March 7th thru Sunday, March 9th.
Unsold works need to be collected betweed Monday, March 10th & Thursday, March 13th.
